Dear Fellow Republican,
It has been a pleasure getting to know many of you more over the past month or so since Len’s announcement of his candidacy for Speaker of the House. I know Len has enjoyed meeting many of you and looks forward to meeting with the rest of you soon. If you haven’t talked or met with Len yet, please let us know your availability and if you have a favorite local place. If you have an upcoming event where a visit would be welcome, Len would be honored to be there.
One thing you may not know about Len is his experience with bringing people together during the darkest of times. When one of the most tragic days of recent American history occurred, 9/11, Len was Chairman of the Boston Pilot’s Association of American Airlines and was responsible for representing it’s 550 pilots. Two of those pilots were lost on American Airlines Flight 11 on that fateful day. One of them lived locally, and his kids went to the same Christian Academy as Len’s kids. Len became determined to fight to do whatever he could to prevent this from ever happening again. He fought alongside a dear friend and pilot, Phillip Beall, to help pass the Federal Arming Pilots Against Terrorism Act, along with the help of then US NH Senator Bob Smith. This legislation became a law that facilitated arming airline pilots so that planes could never again be used as a weapon of mass destruction.
Len’s friend Phillip recently wrote a heartfelt note to his Republican friends, which gave us a little more insight into who Len is as a person, so we wanted to share some of it with you. The entire letter can be seen HERE.
“Len has worn many hats. Hired as a pilot at AA in 1985… Len got involved with Allied Pilots Association (APA) and poured himself into the jobs he took on. I can honestly say that at every turn Len applied a warrior’s spirit to his efforts. Chairman or member of the APA SCOPE committee, Negotiating Committee, domicile chairman for BOS – and so on the APA board of directors with me on 911; he did heavy lifting and did not mind getting his hands dirty in the process. Those positions alone inform one of Len’s character; they are hard, 24/7, thankless and politically fraught positions within the pilot ranks. But wait, that isn’t all… As an extremely senior B787 captain (#28 out of ~16,000 AA pilots) he will be leaving a lot of pilot earnings on the table… With two years to go until Age 65 mandatory retirement from his AA job, and with a lot of energy still in the tank, Len is running for his fifth term and also for NH Speaker of the House… Len is a great American, he wants to get in there and shake things up and I for one want to watch the show. Let’s all help make it happen.”
In December of 2022, US Senator Bob Smith also wrote to Len and reflected on their work together: “Len- you are a true Patriot! I’ll always treasure the hard fought victory to get guns in the cockpit. Together, we made a difference!” The entire letter can be viewed HERE.
We are confident that with Len’s wealth of experience, the NH House of Representatives will see historic success under his leadership. Our caucus will work together to finally pass some long-awaited priorities, including a budget based on historical inflation enabling economic stability, parental rights affirming the foundational role of parents written in language that everyone can be proud of, and finally legislation to keep our communities safe by protecting our northern border and preventing sanctuary cities in NH.
We hope you’ll join us in voting for Len to restore trust and integrity back into the House.
Best,
Brian, Deb, JD, Katelyn, and Ted
